Porcelain Veneers Dublin
This is one of our favourite treatments. Composite Bonding and Porcelain veneers have the power to change lives. We know this because we have seen it over and over again.
Not everyone is blessed with teeth or a smile they love, we understand this. We have trained all over the world to understand this better. When deciding on a treatment like veneers, we start with a design that works, then we test drive this out. We want to show you the power of the transformation.
Once we know the road map, we need to understand your health, budget and goals. Then a plan is made.
Porcelain veneers are created using a variety of materials based on what we are asking them to do, but don’t worry, we will worry about the science for you. We love talking about this stuff so please don’t be afraid to ask about our choices or to see examples of the work we do!
Our goal is to create a smile that you love, but protect the health of your teeth. Veneers are a thin covering that is created for each individual patient to achieve their own smile goals. We can adapt the shape, size, length and colour of a tooth.
They are long lasting and beautiful (but yes, you do have to look after them).
It’s one of our favourite treatments. It’s amazing to see the power in changing someone’s life with a smile.
What Exactly Are Porcelain Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is a thin, custom-made shell of dental ceramic bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its colour, shape, or alignment — designed to look and feel like natural enamel.
Think of a porcelain veneer as a very thin shell – almost like a contact lens for your tooth. It’s custom made from high-quality dental porcelain and bonded to the front surface of your tooth to change its appearance. The result? A natural-looking, beautifully shaped tooth that blends seamlessly with the rest of your smile.
What makes porcelain special is the way it interacts with light. It has a translucency that’s very close to natural tooth enamel, which means it doesn’t look fake or “stuck on.” When they’re done well (and we’re pretty obsessive about getting them right), most people can’t tell the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for.
Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Bonding – What’s the Difference?
This is a question we get asked all the time, and it’s a great one. Both treatments can create beautiful results, but they work quite differently.
Composite bonding is done directly in the chair – we hand-sculpt composite resin onto your teeth in a single appointment. It’s a brilliant option and one we love, especially for smaller changes or when we want to keep things as minimally invasive as possible.
Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, are made in a dental laboratory by a skilled ceramist. They take a bit longer (usually two appointments), but they offer some advantages: porcelain is more stain-resistant than composite, it holds its colour and polish for longer, and it’s incredibly strong for its thickness.
The right choice depends entirely on your situation – your goals, your budget, the condition of your teeth. We’ll always talk you through both options honestly and help you decide what makes the most sense for you. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and that’s okay.
Our Approach to Smile Design
This is where the magic happens, and honestly, it’s the part we find most exciting. Before we touch a single tooth, we spend time designing your smile. We use digital smile design technology to map out what your new smile could look like, taking into account the shape of your face, your lip line, your natural tooth proportions – all the things that make a smile look like it belongs to you.
We don’t believe in cookie-cutter smiles. We’ve all seen veneers that look too uniform, too white, too perfect in a way that doesn’t look real. That’s not what we do. We want your smile to look like the best version of YOUR smile – natural, balanced, and something you feel genuinely confident about.
Once we have a design you’re happy with, we can create a trial smile so you can actually see and feel what the end result will be like before we commit. It’s like a test drive for your new smile, and it’s one of the most valuable steps in the whole process.
What to Expect During Treatment
We won’t pretend the process is instant – great results take time and care. Here’s what the journey looks like:
Consultation and planning. We’ll sit down with you, listen to what you want to achieve, look at your dental health, and talk through what’s realistic. We’ll take photos, scans and impressions so we can start designing.
Smile design and trial. Using digital tools and, in many cases, a physical mock-up, we’ll show you what your new smile could look like. This is your chance to give feedback – we want you to love it before we go any further.
Tooth preparation. A very thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of each tooth to make room for the veneer. We’re talking fractions of a millimetre here – we always aim to be as conservative as possible. Temporary veneers are placed while your permanent ones are being made.
The ceramist gets to work. Your veneers are handcrafted in a dental laboratory. This is skilled, artistic work – each veneer is built up in layers of porcelain to match the exact colour and translucency we need. We work with some of the best ceramists in the country, and it shows.
Fitting day. This is the exciting part. We try in your new veneers, make sure the fit, colour and shape are exactly right, and then bond them permanently to your teeth. It’s always a special moment – seeing someone see their new smile for the first time is one of the best parts of our job.
How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
Porcelain veneers routinely last 15 to 20 years with proper care, and long-term studies show survival rates above 90% at both the 15- and 20-year mark.
With good care, porcelain veneers can last 15 to 20 years, and sometimes even longer. They’re strong, they resist staining, and they hold their shape beautifully over time.
But here’s the honest bit – they’re not indestructible. You need to look after them the same way you’d look after your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and visits to our hygienist are all important – a biofilm-first clean with EMS AIRFLOW keeps surface stain off the ceramic. We’d also recommend avoiding things like biting your nails, chewing ice, or opening packets with your teeth (we know, we know, we’ve all done it).
If you’re someone who grinds their teeth at night, we’ll talk to you about a night guard to protect your investment. It’s a simple thing that can make a big difference in the long run.
A systematic review in the European Journal of Dentistry confirmed these numbers — tracking studies where porcelain veneers bonded to enamel achieved over 90% survival rates at 20 years. The key factor? How much enamel is preserved during preparation. That’s why we’re always as conservative as possible when prepping your teeth.
Porcelain Veneer Costs in Dublin
A single porcelain veneer at Docklands Dental is €1,200 per tooth (a single fixed fee), with the total investment depending on how many teeth are included in your smile design.
Let’s be upfront about this – porcelain veneers are an investment. The cost depends on how many veneers you need and the complexity of the case. We’ll always give you a clear, detailed breakdown before any work begins so there are no surprises.
We understand this is a big decision, and cost is part of that. We offer flexible payment plans to help make it more manageable, and we’re always happy to talk through what’s involved. You can also check our price list for guidance.
The way we see it, a smile you love is something you use every single day. When you think about it like that, the value starts to make a lot of sense.
Why Choose Docklands Dental for Porcelain Veneers
We’re going to be honest: most dental clinics in Dublin can offer you porcelain veneers. So what actually separates a good veneer case from a great one? In our experience, it comes down to three things — the ceramic, the ceramicist, and the dentist’s eye for detail.
Here’s what sets our veneer work apart:
- Feldspathic porcelain — the gold standard. Most clinics use milled or pressed ceramic veneers (E-max, lithium disilicate) because they’re faster and cheaper to produce. (We wrote a fuller comparison: Feldspathic vs E-max Veneers: An Honest Comparison.) We work with hand-layered feldspathic porcelain — built up tooth by tooth, layer by layer, by a master ceramicist. It takes around 20 hours of skilled handwork per case, spread over a number of days. The result has the translucency and depth of natural enamel — light moves through the veneer the way it moves through a real tooth. Milled veneers, by comparison, can look a touch “manufactured” up close.
- Vladimir Savchuk — one of the world’s leading ceramicists. The ceramicist is as important as the dentist for veneer outcomes — possibly more so. We work with Vladimir Savchuk, a master ceramicist based in Kyiv whose handwork is the kind that other cosmetic dentists send their own cases to. Feldspathic veneers at this level take decades of experience to hand-layer well, and the relationship between dentist and ceramicist matters enormously to the final result.
- 17+ years placing veneers in Dublin. Dr Gregg Barry qualified from University College Cork in 2008 (BDS, with honours and the W&H award for operative dentistry) and has focused on cosmetic restorative work ever since. He holds a Diploma in Digital Dentistry and is a Key Opinion Leader for Dentsply Sirona — one of the world’s largest dental technology manufacturers — which means he trains other dentists in digital workflows.
- Digital smile design with a real “trial smile.” Before we prep a single tooth, you see what your veneers will look like — in your mouth, with your face. If you don’t love the shape, length, or proportion, we change it. No surprises on fitting day.
- Same dentist, start to finish. The dentist who plans your case prepares your teeth and bonds your veneers. No handoffs, no “your case has been transferred to a colleague.”
- Honest, transparent pricing. Feldspathic veneers are €1,200 per tooth. Most full smile cases involve 6 to 8 veneers and typically land in the €7,200 to €9,600 range. We give you the full quote — including lab work and follow-up — at your initial visit. No hidden fees, no quotes that change later.
If you’re thinking about veneers, the most useful next step is just a conversation. We’ll assess your teeth, talk through what’s possible, and tell you honestly whether feldspathic veneers are the right call — or whether something simpler would actually serve you better – whitening, bonding, or orthodontic alignment with our specialist colleagues at ISCD.

How long do porcelain veneers last?
