Comprehensive General Care

We decided a long time ago, that it wasn’t about treating teeth. It was about treating people. We want to get to know the patients we look after. It’s important to us, and we think it’s important to you.

We spend an hour with every new patient.

With this time we can do everything from screening for cancer, to chatting about headaches. We want you to leave your appointment knowing as much as you can about you oral health and to have developed a plan that suits you.

To do this, we use clinical information, digital photography, videos and digital radiography. The basic tools of good communication.

There is no right treatment plan, there’s just the one that works for you. It’s our job to work this out together.

Your First Visit With Us

That hour we spend with every new patient? It’s one of the things we’re most proud of. In a world where dental appointments often feel rushed, we deliberately take our time. We want to understand you – not just your teeth, but what matters to you, what worries you, and what your goals are.

During that first appointment, we’ll do a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, jaw, and the soft tissues of your mouth. We screen for oral cancer as standard (something we feel really strongly about), check for signs of gum disease, look at your bite, and assess any existing dental work. We use digital X-rays, clinical photographs and intraoral cameras so you can actually see what we’re seeing.

But it’s not just about the clinical stuff. We’ll sit down and talk. If you get headaches, we want to know. If you grind your teeth at night, we want to know. If you’ve been putting off dental care for years because you’re anxious, we really want to know. The more we understand, the better care we can give you.

Why General Dental Care Matters More Than You Think

We know general dentistry doesn’t sound as exciting as veneers or smile makeovers, but here’s the truth – it’s the foundation that everything else is built on. Without healthy teeth and gums, cosmetic work isn’t possible. And more importantly, your oral health is directly connected to your overall health.

Research continues to show links between gum disease and conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and complications during pregnancy. Your mouth is a window into what’s happening in the rest of your body, and regular dental check-ups can catch issues early – not just dental issues, but sometimes things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

That’s why we take our check-ups seriously. It’s not just a quick look and a polish. It’s a proper, thorough assessment of your oral health.

What We Cover in Your Check-up

Every check-up at Docklands Dental includes:

A full examination of your teeth. We check for decay, cracks, wear, and any changes since your last visit. Digital X-rays are taken when clinically necessary to see what’s happening beneath the surface.

Gum health assessment. We measure the health of your gums carefully. Gum disease is one of the most common conditions we see, and catching it early makes a huge difference to the outcome.

Oral cancer screening. We check the soft tissues of your mouth, tongue, and throat for any unusual changes. Early detection saves lives, and it only takes a few minutes.

Bite and jaw assessment. Problems with your bite or jaw joint (TMJ) can cause headaches, jaw pain, and tooth wear. We’ll check for any signs of this and talk to you about it if we find anything.

Review of existing dental work. Fillings, crowns and other restorations don’t last forever. We monitor the condition of any previous work and let you know if anything needs attention.

Treatment Planning – Your Plan, Your Pace

After your examination, we’ll sit down and talk through what we’ve found. No jargon, no pressure. We’ll show you the photographs, explain what we’re seeing, and discuss your options.

If treatment is needed, we’ll create a plan that works for you – one that considers your priorities, your budget, and your timeline. We never pressure anyone into treatment. Some patients want to do everything at once, others prefer to tackle things gradually. Both approaches are absolutely fine with us.

We believe the best treatment plan is the one you’re comfortable with. Our job is to give you the information and recommendations; the decisions are always yours.

Preventive Care – Stopping Problems Before They Start

Prevention is at the heart of what we do. We’d much rather help you avoid problems than fix them after the fact. That’s why we invest time in education – showing you the most effective brushing and flossing techniques, talking about diet, and helping you understand how to look after your teeth between visits.

Regular check-ups combined with visits to our hygienist are the best way to keep your mouth healthy long-term. We’ll recommend a check-up schedule that’s right for you – for most patients that’s every six months, but some people may benefit from more frequent visits depending on their individual needs. A check-up is €80 and a clean with our hygienist is €95 — here is what a check-up and teeth cleaning cost, and what each includes.

Our Technology

We’re big believers in using technology to deliver better care. At Docklands Dental we use:

Digital X-rays – lower radiation, instant results, and the ability to zoom in and show you exactly what’s going on.

Intraoral cameras – so you can see what we see, in high definition, on screen right in front of you.

CBCT 3D scanning – for complex cases where we need a detailed 3D view of your teeth, bone and jaw.

Digital photography – we record your dental health visually so we can track changes over time and communicate clearly with you about your care.

Technology is only useful if it helps us give you better care, and that’s exactly how we use it.

Emergency Dental Care

Toothache at 2am? A chipped tooth on a Saturday? We know dental emergencies don’t wait for convenient times. If you’re in pain or have had a dental accident, call us. We always do our best to see emergency patients as quickly as possible, often on the same day.

If you’re not sure whether your situation counts as an emergency, call us anyway. We’d always rather hear from you and help you figure out the next step than have you sitting at home worried.
